A newly restored painting enriches all the religious paintings of the cathedral. Mr. Ganne will present some of the artwork that embellishes the monument.
In the cathedral, animals are everywhere. Art is conceived as a religious teaching, but it must be deciphered! Tradition teaches how the lamb, the pelican, the phoenix are symbols of Christ, how the serpent, the dragon embody evil while the dove evokes the Holy Spirit. All these symbols, inheritances of a long history, are now misunderstood, and need to be commented.
The publication of the issue of the Revue d'Auvergne on the medieval windows of the Cathedral is an opportunity to present in detail the set of stained glass windows of the choir of the Clermont Cathedral, a homogeneous set designed by the chapter in the last years of the thirteenth century. But the 19th and 20th century stained glass windows are not to be forgotten!

Dominating Clermont's mound, the stone cathedral of Volvic is a head - of work of Gothic art. The elevation of the nave, the lightness(thoughtlessness) of structures and the wealth of its sculptures (in particular the remarkable set(group) of gargoyles keeping(guarding) the bedhead) testify the genius(engineering) of its builders. Begun in 1248 by the architect Jean Deschamps, it was always extended in the course of the centuries, before being finished(ended) on the plans of Eugene Viollet-le-Duc in 1884.
