Of the theatre, built in 1824 thanks to the general of Boigne, remains above all a superb stage curtain painted by Luigi Vacca and representing "The descent of Orpheus to the Underworld". After its destruction by fire in 1864, the theatre was rebuilt in the same place, on plans by Charles-Bernard Pellegrini and Joseph-Samuel Revel. The large room surprises with its warmth and refinement. Its design is typically Italian with a horseshoe shape composed of four rigorously superimposed galleries. The scenery of the stage and the room are by Victor Chenillon, decorator of the opera of Marseille, the decorations of the galleries of Diéterle, decorator of the opera of Paris. Sculptures and paintings are the works of Delécole, Bin and Blanc. The 1993 renovation made it possible to rediscover the variety of the original colors, with the galleries and walls in ochre and the front-stage boxes and the parterre in grey-green.
