Castle of the twelfth and fourteenth centuries remodeled in the seventeenth and restored in the nineteenth. Houses collections and souvenirs related to the famous House of Polignac.
The Duke of Polignac prides himself - rightly - on owning the first castle of the Loire. And what a castle! Forget Blois and Chambord. Here, about fifteen kilometers north of Le Puy, the Loire is still a stream of impetuous water, and the meander - the «vault» - that encloses the Polignac residence on its spur is almost perfect. From the terrace of the first floor, where one plunges at peak on the Loire, 45 meters below, one sees the herons and sheep, peaceful at the edge of the water.
