The Hotel Nicolle de La Place, renovated in 2020 to allow the installation of the services of the town hall since the 19th century houses the portrait of Michel Frédéric Pillet-Will (1781-1860) who benefited from a restoration. Created by the Savoyard painter Benoît Molin (1810-1894), this portrait offers multiple testimonies of the high status enjoyed by Michel Frédéric Pillet-Will, a native of Montmélian, in the Parisian high society of the 19th century.

Built in the 14th century, this former stronghold is one of the oldest houses in the city. Located in the centre of the village of Montmélian, next to the rampart on the east side, it had a defense and surveillance tower. During the 16th and 17th centuries, it was completely renovated according to the architectural codes of the time (entrance door and interior doors surmounted by an arch in brace, mullioned windows, balconies in basket handle, staircase with screws in grinding stones inside,...). In 1869, the Nicolle de La Place family sold its property to the Ville de Montmélian. The mansion became Hôtel de Ville. It remained so until 1984, when the town hall moved to more modern and functional premises. The first floor is then put at the disposal of an association that develops the Historical Museum of Montmélian. The ground floor, meanwhile, is transformed into an exhibition room. In 2020, this beautiful house, partly classified as Historical Monuments, is completely restored to all
