From the first works dating from the first half of the 19th century, to the contemporary creations of Pierre Alechinsky, the complete history of lava enamelling is represented through exceptional works lent by national museums. Art of the surprising fire, a reconstruction of enamelling workshop allows visitors to discover and understand the different stages of making an enamelled lava.
The majority of the boxes of the orientation table of La Samaritaine will be exceptionally presented to the public. Painted in 1927 by Théophile Tailhandier (1874-1939), these cartons (oils on canvases) served as models for the realization of the 24 enamelled lava elements representing the roofs of the Capital seen from the observatory of La Samaritaine, a true masterpiece of know-howmake local.
