Montferrand outside the walls, family visit
An original visit, for a discovery outside the walls of the fortified city. In the thirteenth century, the wall of enclosure around the bastide, pierced by four gates Bel Regard, the Hospital, the Poterne and Bise, extended over 1700 meters (walls longer than those of Carcassonne!), resisting as much during the wars against the English and their Gascon allies as during the wars of religion. The city was never taken by force, only the ruse allowed on February 7, 1388 the captain of truckers Perrot the Béarnais to invest it! The fortifications, which have been regularly remodeled and partly disappeared over the centuries, have benefited from a plan to safeguard and enhance these remarkable ramparts.
