Clermont, built at the foot of the Puys range, surrounded by old volcanoes (Chanturgue or Gergovie), sits on a crater: that of Jaude whose explosions, 156,000 years ago, drew the mound. Under the feet, on the walls, materials from the volcanic past are omnipresent.
