À propos du lieu

Gros Ouvrage du Galgenberg

The fortified site of Cattenom presents itself as an active museum where the components and materials of the Maginot Line are presented in their context of 1940\. The devices in operation make the public understand the life of the fortress troops.
The main mission of the work was to occupy a high point (the «Galgenberg») which offers views to Germany and even to Metz on a clear day! The summit under which this work is built has made it possible to carry out a compact work with galleries of (relatively) small length while maintaining the armament with curved shot back of the summit, and therefore paraded to the views of the enemy. It is one of the rare works to have galleries in ashlar stone.
