Follow the guide and discover the brand new exhibition of the Museum of Prehistory devoted to … waste! Contrary to what one might think, archeology is not a matter of treasures. All material remains are of interest to archeologists and waste is no exception. They carry valuable information about the lifestyles of our predecessors. This exhibition, by telling the history of our waste, draws in hollow the history of our societies.

Opened in 1981, the Prehistory Museum of Île-de-France is a departmental museum with a regional vocation. It presents the prehistory of the Paris region, from the first vestiges attesting to the presence of man at the end of the Gallic period. The building, in rough concrete and glass, is the work of architect and urban planner Roland Simounet. Installed in a glade dotted with sandstone chaos and provided with six interior gardens, the museum is widely open on the surrounding nature. The visit route is chronological. Each great period includes two rooms (a main room and a second room) separated by an interior garden whose vegetation evokes a climatic phase of the period concerned. Two large casts of prehistoric soils complete the circuit. The route ends with the presentation of a large boat from the Carolingian era discovered in an old channel of the Seine.
