Discover the new temporary exhibition of the City of Prehistory, to discover the funerary rites of Prehistory!
The exhibition Plus belle la mort! asks the question of our relationship with death in the broad sense and proposes to illustrate how Prehistory can enrich our current human perception. Through the presentation of prehistoric sites in the South-East of France, some of which are unpublished and from excavations of INRAP (Institut national de recherches en archéologie préventive), this exhibition will highlight the great diversity of mortuary practices. It evokes the traces preserved but also, implicitly, the elements now inaccessible. These different practices, from the simple burial in a pit of an individual to cannibalism through funeral pyres, megalithic collective burials and various post-mortem manipulations, cross the ages. They testify to gestures made by the living to separate from their deceased in a very likely collective and ritualized setting.
Also have free access to the permanent collections of the museum which present 350,000 years of regional prehistory.

The City of Prehistory invites us to share the daily lives of our ancestors from the Middle Paleolithic to the first Iron age. A true journey of 350,000 years to discover the Pre-Neanderthals, from the Neanderthal man to the modern man, Homo sapiens, through the lifestyles of hunter-gatherers, through agriculture, livestock and metallurgy. Immerse yourself in prehistory through sound worlds, tactile games, manipulation stands, the presence of naturalized animals, life-size illustrations and reconstructed life scene models. The permanent exhibition showcases real archeological objects (bones, pottery, weapons, tools, furniture...) Coming from Ardèche and the North of Gard, and facsimiles (reproductions) from experimental archeology.
