We will present you the history(story) of the cemetery Saint Roch and the remarkable burials around the Chapel Saint Roch, in the most picturesque and most old(former) part(party) of the cemetery.
We will take you to the discovery of graves of characters, men(people) and women, politicians, priests, sculptors, builders, notables and intellectuals who contributed to fame and to development of Grenoble.
We will make you discover sculptures, symbols and bas-reliefs which adorn number of funerary monuments.

The Cemetery Saint Roch, created in 1810, counts currently 29 000 concessions on 13 hectares. More than 800 graves were listed(classified) remarkable for their architectural, artistic or historic interest further to a patrimonial inventory realised by the City of Grenoble. In 1901, it was possible to read in the Magazine(Review) of the picturesque Alps: «In few years, the cemetery took a turn at once grave and majestic: in 1826, they built there the beautiful chapel in which ends the main path and, later in 1884, the stations(resorts) of the Way of the Cross(long, hard way) (…) were placed there. Our necropolis, by value and beauty of its mausoleums, is one of richer in Province and it is with justice that we are proud of it!» . Number of personalities from Grenoble, who made the history(story) of the city of the XIXth century at the beginning of the XXth century, are buried there: politicians, scientists, artists, members of a religious order, servicemen
