Counteracting the myth of eternal youth and the phenomenon of making our elders invisible, L'âge de frémir (The Age of Shuddering) offers an iconoclastic representation of old age by questioning the permanence and impermanence of our identities. In the folds of skin, the furrow of wrinkles, the memory gaps, the hesitant steps, the trembling hands; beneath the heavy eyelids, the outdated clothes, the white hair and the ghostly silhouettes are revealed a wild grace, a disheveled mischief, a brazen impropriety, a subversive sensuality and above all a fiery desire to fight again and again.

Passé maître dans l’art d’investir la scène en bousculant la dramaturgie classique, Guillaume Béguin étonne une fois de plus avec cet hommage irrévérencieux au grand-âge. Contrecarrant le mythe de l’éternelle jeunesse et le phénomène d’invisibilisation de nos aîné.e.s, L’âge de frémir offre une représentation iconoclaste de la vieillesse en questionnant la permanence et l’impermanence de nos identités. Dans les plis de peau, le sillon des rides, les trous de mémoire, les pas hésitants, les mains tremblantes ; sous les paupières alourdies, les vêtements désuets, les chevelures blanches et les silhouettes fantomatiques se révèlent une grâce folle, une malice échevelée, une inconvenance effrontée, une sensualité subversive et surtout une fougueuse envie d’en découdre encore et encore.
