The site of Lancharre seems to appear in Ier century AD. under Augustus's reign and thanks to the construction of the Roman way connecting(binding) Tournus in Autun. According to archaeological excavations(searches), he(it) seems that Lancharre had to be a relay of essential stage for the travellers having crossed(exceeded) or to cross(exceed) the formidable "Collar(Pass) in Chêvres". This prosperity does not seem to have been perpetuated in the IIIth century and Lancharre then sinks into oblivion. Crossed by many invasions the from Vth centuries till Xth centuries (Celts, Burgondes, Norman, Hungarian) the valleys of the Saône and of Grosne, which delimit Mâconnais, found their identity thanks to the setting-up(presence) of the monks from Noirmoutier in Tournus, and that of Benedictines in Cluny. One of the first examples is the one of Chapaize, at the instigation of Guillaume de Volpiano, come from Lombardy. Nearby, the Sires de Brançion melt canonesses' middle school(canonesses' college) in the course of the XIth century. It was not a convent but rather a "Beguine convent" where lived piously ladies of noble families. The primitive(initial) church of the XIth and XIIth centuries was included(comprised) in the enlargements of the XIIIth century. At the beginning of the XIIIth century the canonesses kiss(embrace) the rule(ruler) of Saint-Benoit then in the XVIIth century the priory is transferred in Chalon-sur-Saône, where it took the title of abbey, after a reform of monastic life to return it in compliance with rules(rulers) Benedictines. For the 2nd time, Lancharre falls into oblivion and the abandoned church becomes run-down. The nave in ruin, it was demolished(destroyed), by safety(security), in difficult date to locate. Only have the chorus(choir) kept(preserved) summers with its apses and the transept topped with the bell tower. Lancharre which was an independent municipality becomes hamlet of Chapaize in 1846\. The classification(ranking) of the church in conformance with(for) Historic monuments in 1930 allowed the protection(saving) of this building. This year, the glass artist Jean-Marie Géron proposes the discovery of the first central stained-glass window of the chorus(choir) supplementing those of the absidioles of the Chapel
