The European Heritage Days allow to highlight the missions of the museum and its research center, to preserve, study and transmit.

Enjoy a presentation of the museum’s research program and initial results. The Victory Trophy, a major part of the museum’s collection, continues to attract interest from researchers. The ROMAE project team is trying to answer a particular question: where does marble come from? This seems simple and yet discovering the origin of an antique marble can be complicated. The researchers will be there to explain what they are doing.
Speakers: Isabelle Pianet (University of Bordeaux), project leader; Marie-Claire Savin (University of Bordeaux).

Musée archéologique départemental
31510 Saint-Bertrand-de-Comminges
  • Haute-Garonne
  • Occitanie
Heir to the «Musée de Comminges» which opened in 1924 in Saint-Bertrand-de-Commnges, the Musée archéologique départemental was created in 1985, on the occasion of the transfer by the Société archéologique du Midi de la France, until then master of the local archaeology, of all its collections at the Conseil Général de la Haute-Garonne.
Since then, the museum has been the repository of objects from excavations carried out between 1920 and 1969, to which are now added those from recent excavations initiated in 1985\. Its purpose is to promote its study and development, and to guarantee its conservation, safety and accessibility.
The study and conservation rooms of the Departmental Archaeological Museum are located in Saint-Bertrand-de-Comments, in the upper town, in the so-called “former Gendarmerie” building. The museum has an archaeological research and resources centre (c2ra), a study library specializing in ancient history and archaeology, and an exhibition hall.
