📜 A little history...
The seigneury of Chaillac belonged to the famous family of Rochechouart. In 1304, Simon de Rochechouart married Lore de Chabanais, who gave him as a dowry the fief of Chaillac-sur-Vienne...
But to know the rest of this history, you will have to come and discover this emblematic building, where many surprises await you, both historically and architecturally.

From the 12th century, one probably retains vestiges of the original single vessel with flat chevet, with its barrel vault on the nave and some of the modillions of the cornice around the outer walls. First redesign by the west facade, where the portal, with its very elaborate molding, must date from the end of the 13th or the beginning of the 14th century. From 1458 onwards, two closely spaced campaigns of enlargement succeeded each other: a three-span north aisle and the vaulting of the chancel, then a large seigneurial chapel with a square plan on the southern side of the nave. Fillings of the bays and ribs of the penetration vaults characteristic of flamboyant Gothic. The south chapel, with its volume of chapel-hall where two central pillars receive ribbed vaults with liernes, could have been ordered by Jean de Pontville, familiar to Louis XI, who became viscount of Rochechouart by alliance in 1470\. An important painted decoration was discovered in 1994 on the walls of this chapel
