Ab dem 16. Jahrhundert dehnte sich die Stadt, in ihrer alten Ummauerung eng beengt, unter dem Einfluss von Heinrich I. von Montmorency über ihre Mauern hinaus aus. Herrenhäuser und Klöster wurden in diesem neuen Gehege errichtet.
