Arranged on the hillside and overlooking the Brenne valley around a castle built in the Renaissance, the park and gardens of Valmer make the village of Chançay a striking point of the territory. Built in the 16th and 17th centuries, these terraced gardens respond to both a topographical constraint and a taste for Italian-style gardens. Wherever you are in the field of Valmer, from the succession of terraces skillfully combined, one discovers the vegetable garden of a hectare below only at the last moment, creating an ultimate surprise effect. A quite voluntary provision to distinguish, at the time, the place of subsistence from pleasure gardens. Despite a fire completely destroying the estate in 1948, the owner Alix de Saint-Venant succeeded in the 1970s to revive the gardens of the castle, notably thanks to a garden plan dated 1695 which escaped the fire. She will therefore have the idea to evoke, with the topiary of ifs, the silhouette of the disappeared castle. In 2014, a new adventure begins with the installation of an ampelographic collection; old grape varieties from the Loire Valley and table grapes. These six hectares complete the thirty hectares of vines that surround the estate and are used for the production of Vouvray by the family.
