Stayed in a state very close to its original appearance of the time(weather) of Louis XVI, the Fort of Querqueville is in itself a remarkable monument. But it is necessary to replace it in its environment: that of the big(great) roadstead of Cherbourg, with the pier of about 4 km, the military port(bearing), the bastion of the Ile Pelée. The construction of such defences were during 70 years the biggest(greatest) construction site(work) of Europe, competing with works of St. Petersburg; that of the small natural port(bearing) of Querqueville, which offers its protection behind the dike of strong Chavagnac, and that presents big(great) prospects(perspectives) for the development of yachting.
