Geboren 1656 in Lisle d'Albigeois (heute Lisle-sur-Tarn), entwickelte Raymond Lafage schon in jungen Jahren eine außergewöhnliche Leidenschaft und ein Talent für das Zeichnen, die ihn ins Atelier von Jean-Pierre Rivalz nach Toulouse führten, einem renommierten Maler und Architekten. An der Académie Royale de Paris, dann in Rom, wo er den ersten Preis der renommierten Académie Saint-Luc erhielt. Seine von der barocken Ästhetik geprägten Werke sind von der Mythologie und insbesondere von Bacchanalen, biblischen Themen und historischen Szenen inspiriert. Dieses Kind aus einem Weinanbaugebiet stellt sich gerne in Bacchus, seinem Lieblingsgott, dar. Er ist auch ein Karikaturist mit einer furchterregenden Eigenschaft. Born in 1656 in Lisle d'Albigeois (now Lisle-sur-Tarn), Raymond Lafage developed from a very young age an exceptional passion and talent for drawing that led him to the workshop in Toulouse of Jean-Pierre Rivalz, renowned painter and architect, at the Royal Academy of Paris and then in Rome where he obtained the first prize of the prestigious Académie Saint-Luc. His works marked by the baroque aesthetic are inspired by mythology and in particular by bacchanals, biblical subjects and historical scenes. This child from a vineyard country likes to represent himself in Bacchus, his god of predilection. He is also a caricaturist with a formidable line. Very early sought by collectors such as the financier and art lover Pierre Crozat, it was widely distributed by the best engravers. On 5 November 1684, he died accidentally in Lyon at the age of twenty-eight after a free and eventful life.

Le sue opere, caratterizzate da un'estetica barocca, si ispirano alla mitologia e in particolare ai baccani, ai soggetti biblici e alle scene storiche. Questo bambino di un paese di vigneti ama rappresentarsi in Bacchus, il suo dio preferito. È anche un caricaturista dal tratto temibile. Ses œuvres marquées par l’esthétique baroque s’inspirent de la mythologie et notamment de bacchanales, de sujets bibliques et de scènes historiques. Cet enfant d’un pays de vignoble aime à se représenter en Bacchus, son dieu de prédilection. C’est également un caricaturiste au trait redoutable. Très tôt recherché par les collectionneurs comme le financier et amateur d’art Pierre Crozat, il est largement diffusé par les meilleurs graveurs. Le 5 novembre 1684, il meurt accidentellement à Lyon à l’âge de vingt-huit ans au terme d’une vie libre et mouvementée.
