Inaugurated in 1927, the Bossuet Museum presents the historical collections of the city, gathered in the 19th century. They are now composed of more than 5,500 objects of very varied nature, attached to the history of the territory. A rich iconographic collection evoking Jacques-Bénigne Bossuet, bishop of Meaux, completes it. The generosity of scientists has helped to develop the collections of paintings: The legacy of Henri Moissan’s son, Nobel Prize in Chemistry in 1906, includes works by Jean-François Millet, Jean-Léon, Gérome, Alexandre-Gabriel Decamps. Since 1983, the donations of Jean-Pierre and Annie Changeux have enshrined the collections of paintings of the 17th and 18th centuries by Jacques Blanchard, Sébastien Bourdon, Mathieu Le Nain. The episcopal palace offers an exceptional historical setting to the presentation Furniture and artistic collections of the bishops of Meaux. The rooms medieval on the ground floor host temporary exhibitions.
