A few words about the chapel:
In the 18th century, the sacristy and the chapel of the Sacred Heart were erected to the south of the church, built on the site of the former chapter house. On the vault and walls of this chapel, a trompe-l'oeil decoration dating from the 19th century is displayed. It has been splendidly restored and reveals parts of earlier decorations. A visit as pleasant to the eye as it is exciting, not its history.

The Saint-Lazare collegiate church is located in Avallon in Burgundy, between Vézelay and Montreal, with which it has architectural links. Its architecture is Romanesque and its portal dates from the 12th century. The building was classified as a historical monument in 1840 and underwent restorations by Viollet le Duc. A new restoration of the Chapel of the Sacred Heart and its remarkable mural paintings is expected to be completed in autumn 2025.
