Guided tour of the Saint-Martin de Haux church

Discover the history of this church alongside Antoine Caillard, passionate about local heritage, born and raised in Haux. Author of two books, Haux, commune de l'Entre-deux-Mers, histoire naturelle et humaine and Creoles blancs de Guyane in the 19th century, he will share his knowledge during this visit.
The discovery will continue with a convivial moment at the Antoine Caillard library in Haux.

The Romanesque church was remodeled in the 19th century but retains its portal. Its single nave was surmounted by an exposed frame, hidden under a paneling in 1878\. At the same time was built the north aisle. The bedside is vaulted in a butt of oven. The western facade includes a bell tower wall underlined by a balcony carried by large crows and a porch. It opens between two arcatures half hidden by the buttresses. The arched vaults fall on three columns with carved capitals (Adoration of the Magi, Holy Women in the tomb). The inner arch is decorated with flattened rinses and animals. The second arch carries a row of characters who pull on a rope, surmounted by a string of fantastic animals. The third arch is decorated with the old men of the Apocalypse, sitting, their legs folded under the extrados. Christ between two angels is in the center. They are surmounted by a frieze of quadrupeds. The fourth arch is decorated with characters, and tetramorphe in the center. The last cord is decorated with characters who are held by the hand. The other sculptures of the facade and buttresses are keystones from the Sauve-majeure.
