The oval barns are French agricultural buildings spread over a small geographical area, restricted to the borders of the Limousin and Périgord. Numerous in the 19th century, testimonies of a bygone past, few remain at the beginning of the 21st century.
The oval barns have a typical oval plan (roof and enclosure), which generally has a bearing on a facade where the entrance to the passage charretier is arranged.
They were at first hay storage spaces, with a large attic fenil. The ground floor or enclosed, was divided into cells or compartments with multiple functions. Probably with a stable for cattle, a sheepfold, a pigsty, a henhouse or a poultry yard, a wood store, root storage for cattle feed. Several observers indicate that some barns may also have housed the basic dwelling of a family of sharecroppers. The different compartments are accessible from the outside.
