The Villa Calcicustello is mentioned from 861 in a charter. The fort is cited in 1119\. The abbot of Lagrasse was the lord of justice and retained his rights until the end of the 17th century. He was not, however, the only lord of the place. The castle, which is never listed among the abbey’s expenditure statements, was to be occupied by the lords in parage. The tower is the only vestige of the primitive fort. To the south of the tower, housing was completed in the 18th century, by important buildings now in ruins. Buildings also existed to the north of the tower, probably demolished during the construction of the furnace which was undoubtedly used for the treatment of antimony. It is certainly prior to 1903, even in the 19th century, because the external facings do not show any trace of bush hammering.
