Château de Lafauche (forteresse médiévale)
Rue du Château, 52700 Lafauche
The building (supposed) of the 11th century had for the first lord Hugues de Lafauche. The castle is a huge structure built on a rocky spur.
The castle was vast with a low court and high court, well fortified, surrounded by a rampart of 1,525 m thick at 3 meters and flanked by eighteen towers. Two drawbridges provided access to the courtyards. Nine towers are still visible. An ideal fortress, chosen by many princes to stay there or hold a seat.
Thus Lafauche had a double strategic importance, both in its construction and in its position which placed it at the steps of Lorraine.
The Château de Lafauche is a border fortress dating from the 12th - 16th century overlooking the plain of Prez at an altitude of more than 400 metres. Its area of 5 ha testifies to its strategic importance in the Middle Ages.
