Artistic walk in the heart of the works of one of the most important artists of the eighteenth century
The museums of Langres invite you to discover the masterpieces of the painter Joseph Vernet (1714-1789), famous artist and very appreciated by Diderot.
Known as one of the fathers of art criticism, the Langrois philosopher saw and commented on the painter’s paintings, when they were exhibited at the Salons (exhibitions) of the Academy. In one of his most famous commentaries, La Promenade Vernet, Diderot evokes, in an original form, the great landscapes painted by Vernet and addresses essential questions of the creative process.
Bringing together a dozen major works loaned by major French museums and collectors, the very ones Diderot saw at the Salons, this exhibition and its catalogue offer you an artistic walk in the heart of the works of one of the most important artists of the eighteenth century.
