The present church was built in the 12th century, replacing pre-existing buildings (5th century oratory, 8th century basilica). According to tradition, the church was intended to house the relics of three martyrs (the Holy Twins) who came from Cappadocia in the 5th century. The church was remodelled at the end of the 18th century, including the construction of a new bell tower and construction of a new facade. The crypt is classified as a Historical Monument by order in 1892, while the rest of the church is only classified in 1909.
