Photo exhibition by Tony Frank
Impregnated by the musical universe, he is the photographer of many singers, Serge Gainsbourg, Johnny Hallyday and Michel Polnareff for more than 40 years. He remains the privileged witness of a dream era, making shots of French and international stars, singers and actors including Coluche, Eddy Mitchell, Nathalie Baye, Bob Dylan, Véronique Sanson, Laurent Voulzy, Alain Souchon, as well as many Anglo-Saxon groups like the Who or the Rolling Stones. Internationally recognized photographer in the musical world, when The Rolling Stones, Madonna, Bob Dylan, The Who, Janis Joplin or Tina Turner are in Paris, all agree to be shot when Tony Frank is on the other side of the lens. His photographic work is considerable, he produces a large number of record covers, is published in the most famous magazines, «Paris Match», «VSD», collaborates with major companies as well as photographic agencies. His talent is revealed in a work that looks like an album of family photos, with warm and touching portraits, he is always close to those he photographs, sharing everything, in life and through his lens, delivering a new photography, human, sometimes fragile, but always endearing and out of the ordinary. His photography is primarily intimate, he particularly likes outdoor work that saves time on the installation of lighting, his subjects feeling more free, less cramped than in the limited perimeters of the studios. Outdoors his models can move, which gives freedom, breathing and inspiration. He seeks above all to grasp the personality of the one who stands in front of him, picking up a smile, an expression of the face. For him, composition is fundamental.
«The passion of this profession is not just pressing the button, you have to create something». Tony Frank
