The project
Located on a plot of land with uneven ground, bordered by a curved street, this project aims to create several quality homes in continuity with the surrounding urban morphology. The existing house is being preserved, while its dilapidated rear extension is being demolished to free up the heart of the plot and reinforce its vegetation. Three houses of comparable volumes thus recompose the built front, their layout and varying altitudes to match the topography and curve of the street. The new constructions combine foundations and concrete slabs, wood framing, bio-based insulation and coatings, under zinc roofs. The client, a professional rebuilder, took particular care with the facades, combining traditional techniques for the existing ones and textured plasters with a more contemporary expression for the new houses, establishing a dialogue between old and new while maintaining a homogeneous design. Come meet: the architect, the carpenter and the ravaleur.
The architectural agency
Baka Architectes was created in 2019 by Anne-Lucie Baumann, an HMONP architect, and Christophe Kalaydjian, an HMONP architect, registered to the order. Graduates of the École Nationale Supérieure d'Architecture de Versailles, they are both influenced by Japanese architecture following several trips and an exchange at the Kyoto Institute of Technology during their master’s degree. Their cultural mix, mixing East and West, enriches their vision of architecture by developing new ways of living, working and apprehending places.
Baka Architects works on several scales of projects, from the intimate and family living space to the city, urban and territorial scale. Sensitive to the specificity of historic buildings and gardens, the agency also works to perpetuate this fragile and complex heritage by proposing in-depth studies.
