On 5 and 6 September 2026, the MEG will present a series of events dedicated to the classical music traditions of North India (Hindustani music), in tribute to Paul Grant.
Four workshops offering keys to listening and discovering Hindustani musical repertoires, dance, and musical instruments will be led by the Hindustani music master Pandit Nayan Ghosh, his son, the percussionist Ishaan Ghosh, and his daughter, the dancer Sharanya Ghosh.
They will be joined by Jyoti Ghosh, a musician, educator, and specialist in Indian classical music, who regularly collaborates with Pandit Nayan Ghosh and their children, Ishaan and Sharanya Ghosh. The family will also be accompanied by the musician Sébastien Lacroix.
The programme also provides an opportunity to present to the public five of the thirteen musical instruments that once belonged to Paul Grant (1951–2024), a musician, performer, and teacher specializing in Oriental classical music traditions. The instruments were donated to the MEG in March 2025 by Liliane de Toledo Grant. Exceptionally brought out of storage, these instruments will be presented and played by Pandit Nayan Ghosh and Sébastien Lacroix, a former student of Paul Grant.
Saturday 5 September will be devoted to the fundamental principles of the Hindustani musical system and to the making of stringed instruments. Two workshops will introduce the basic concepts of this musical tradition through demonstrations using instruments from the MEG collection, as well as guided listening sessions.

ATELIER 1 – Les fondamentaux de la musique classique hindoustanie

Le système musical hindoustani : introduction aux ragas (structure mélodique).
Musique vocale : aperçu des différentes formes de musique vocale pratiquées et interprétées en Inde du Nord (musique classique et semi-classique hindoustanie).
Écoute d'une sélection d'enregistrements de grands maîtres du chant classique hindoustani.
Démonstrations pratiques en conclusion de la séance.
Le MEG présente, les 5 et 6 septembre 2026, une série d’événements consacrés aux musiques classiques d’Inde du Nord (musiques hindoustanies), en hommage à Paul Grant.
Quatre ateliers proposant des clés d’écoute et de découverte des répertoires musicaux, de la danse et des instruments de musique seront animés par le maître de musique hindoustanie Pandit Nayan Ghosh, son fils, le percussionniste Ishaan Ghosh, et sa fille, la danseuse Sharanya Ghosh.
Ils seront accompagnés de Jyoti Ghosh, musicienne, pédagogue et spécialiste de la musique classique indienne, qui collabore régulièrement avec Pandit Nayan Ghosh ainsi qu’avec leurs enfants, Ishaan et Sharanya Ghosh.
La famille sera également accompagnée du musicien Sébastien Lacroix.
Ce programme est également l’occasion de présenter au public cinq des treize instruments de musique ayant autrefois appartenu à Paul Grant (1951–2024), musicien, interprète et professeur spécialiste des musiques classiques orientales, donnés au MEG en mars 2025 par Liliane de Toledo Grant. Sortis exceptionnellement des réserves, ces instruments seront présentés et joués par Pandit Nayan Ghosh et Sébastien Lacroix, ancien élève de Paul Grant.
La journée du samedi 5 septembre sera consacrée aux éléments fondamentaux du système musical hindoustani ainsi qu’à la fabrication des instruments à cordes. Deux ateliers proposeront une introduction aux notions de base de ce système musical, des démonstrations sur des instruments de la collection du MEG ainsi que des séances d’écoute.
