LUIS NAÓN (FR) / ARIADNA ALSINA TARRÉS (ES) EKLEKTO (CH)
-- Luis Naón : Sobre la Tierra, composition for six percussionists and electronics (commissioned by the Eklekto collective and the Eric Ballard Foundation)
-- Ariadna Alsina Tarrés : Imprints, composition for two percussionists (commissioned by the Eklekto collective)
Luis Naón is a well-known figure in Geneva's musical world, and has been professor of composition at the Haute École de musique de Genève since 2006. His eclectic oeuvre is based as much on his passion for music and the other arts as on his relationship with the world, and his dual culture - Franco-Argentine - has never ceased to be at the heart of his work. Entitled Sobre la Tierra, the new collaboration between the collective and the composer is one of their most accomplished and ambitious.
Ariadna Alsina Tarrés 's new composition is a reflection on the themes of memory and trace. Imprints features two percussionists, one of whom plays the zarb, the principal percussion instrument of Persian music, while the other manipulates fine amplified materials: sheets of bamboo, paper, silk, plant seeds, etc. The eruptive, percussive virtuosity of the zarb is matched by the fragility of the material and of the world.
Faithful to its desire to pass on and share knowledge between generations, Eklekto is once again teaming up with the HEM. The stage will feature student percussionists and Eklekto musicians.
A 2025 creation, co-produced by La Bâtie-Festival de Genève and Eklekto Geneva Percussion Center.
