Arranged around the priory housing an ethnological museum space, the gardens illustrate the relationships between upper-Provençal society and its plant environment. From the entrance, a field of aromatics and open-air flowers now forms an airlock between the great landscape and the gardens designed by the ethnobotanist Pierre Lieutaghi. Next to the Romanesque church, the medieval garden presents its magical plants alongside medicinal squares, aromatic and tinctorial plants. Succeeding the gardens of noria and white oak, the garden of modern times features useful plants from five continents, installed between basins and canals to remind the importance of gravity irrigation in Haute Provence. The garden of village plants precedes the garden of scents which offers an olfactory walk. Place of wandering, place of knowledge, Salagon is also a place of discovery through the beautiful exhibitions that are hosted there.
