Cheb Hasni, king of raï and icon of a whole generation, delivers here his last interview and the only one ever filmed before his assassination in a street in Oran in 1994 at the age of 26. After singing the songs of love and social turmoil, he was the banner of a youth in search of hope in an Algeria bruised by the black decade.
This portrait is all the more poignant because its director, Djamel Kelfaoui, a leading figure in the movement for equality in the 80s, died shortly after the release of this film.
Screening followed by an exchange with Naïma Huber-Yahi, historian specializing in Maghrebi immigration and curator of the exhibition Ya Rayi! A history of raï music.

Dopo aver intonato i canti dell'amore e dei tormenti sociali, era lo stendardo di una gioventù in cerca di speranza in un'Algeria martoriata dal decennio nero.
Questo ritratto è ancora più toccante in quanto il suo regista, Djamel Kelfaoui, figura di riferimento del movimento per l'uguaglianza negli anni '80, è morto poco dopo la sua uscita.

Cheb Hasni, rey del raï e icono de toda una generación, realiza aquí su última entrevista y la única filmada antes de su asesinato en una calle de Orán en 1994 a los 26 años. Después de haber entonado los cantos del amor y de los tormentos sociales, era el estandarte de una juventud en busca de esperanza en una Argelia azotada por la década negra.
Este retrato es aún más conmovedor porque su director, Djamel Kelfaoui, figura destacada del movimiento por la igualdad en los años 80, murió poco después del estreno de esta película.
