Gustave Flaubert (1821-1880), moved in 1846 to a beautiful 17th century family home a few kilometres from Rouen. The work room overlooks the Seine where the writer will go canoeing or swimming. He writes almost all his work, reads aloud his texts, alone or in the presence of his friends Bouilhet, Du Camp, George Sand or Maupassant. He dies in full work on the last pages of "Bouvard and Pécuchet". The estate sold, the house is destroyed to be replaced by a factory, now closed. Remains this vestige of the property, saved by a subscription launched in 1904\. The pavilion allows us to evoke the presence of Flaubert in Croisset through furniture and personal objects.
