After extensive renovation work, the modern art museum in Troyes reopened completely in 2024\. This is an opportunity to (re)discover this cultural jewel born from the donation of a couple of collectors, Pierre and Denise Lévy. Between the walls of the former episcopal palace, a dialogue is forged between modernity of works and exceptional heritage.
The museum of modern art was born from the donation of nearly 2000 works to the state in 1976 by Pierre and Denise Lévy, a couple of Troyan industrialists and collectors. Located in the former episcopal palace, the museum was inaugurated in 1982 by François Mitterrand, President of the Republic, Jack Lang, Minister of Culture and Robert Galley, deputy mayor of Troyes.
The collections reflect the love of the Lévy couple for modern art from the second half of the 19th to the first half of the 20th century. They illustrate a history of French art based on figuration and the question of modernity in line with classical tradition. The major axes
