Église de Murel

The church depended on the abbey of Souillac. It was fortified in the 14th century. The building consists of a polygonal apse, a fortified bell tower mounted on four pillars at the entrance of the chancel, a nave on which opens a rectangular chapel north of the fourteenth century. The columns engaged in four piles of the bell tower, have capitals and carved bases with geometric decoration and foliage with pallets. On the western gable, a small reshaped door presents a tympanum that seems to be a refill. It represents a bird with outstretched wings. This rural church is characteristic of the Quercy Romanesque architecture of the 12th century and was remodeled in the 19th century.
