In the summer of 2027, in connection with the bicentenary of photography, La Piscine welcomes artist Thomas Devaux for a carte blanche to young contemporary creation. Born in the North in Marcq-en-Barœul, the photographer who now lives and works in Paris, defines himself as a visual photographer. In his work, photography creates confusion about its true nature, sometimes to the point of merging with an abstract painting, a design object, or even a minimal art installation. The photographic image thus blurs the markers and is located at the edge of different arts. His works will therefore find a natural place at the Musée d'art et d'industrie de Roubaix which, since its opening in 2001, has not ceased, through its collections and programming, to question the hierarchies between the arts.
Reflection, mirror and light are also at the heart of the artist’s work, who pursues a research on the profane and the sacred in the era of consumer society. For several years, he has transfigured his photographs by mixing them with dichroic glass. Using light as an artistic material in its own right, the works within the museum will interact with the reflections and glass windows of the pool as well as with the collections, in a new installation at the heart of the old swimming pool and within the permanent exhibition.

À l’été 2027 en lien avec le bicentenaire de la photographie, La Piscine accueille pour une carte blanche à la jeune création contemporaine, l’artiste Thomas Devaux. Né dans le Nord à Marcq-en-Barœul, le photographe qui vit et travaille désormais à Paris, se définit comme un photographeplasticien. Dans son travail, la photographie crée la confusion sur sa nature véritable, jusqu’à se confondre parfois avec une peinture abstraite, un objet de design, ou même une installation d’art minimal. L’image photographique brouille ainsi les repères et se situe à la lisière de différents arts. Ses œuvres trouveront donc une place toute naturelle au Musée d’art et d’industrie de Roubaix qui, depuis son ouverture en 2001, n’a de cesse à travers ses collections et sa programmation, d’interroger les hiérarchies entre les arts.
Le reflet, le miroir et la lumière sont aussi au cœur de l’œuvre de l’artiste qui poursuit une recherche sur le profane et le sacré à l’heure de la société de consommation. Depuis quelques années, celui-ci transfigure ses photographies en les mêlant à du verre dichroïque. Usant de la lumière comme d’un matériau artistique à part entière, les œuvres au sein du musée dialogueront avec les reflets et les verrières du bassin ainsi qu’avec les collections, dans une installation inédite au cœur de l’ancienne piscine et au sein du parcours permanent.

In de zomer van 2027, in verband met de tweehonderdste verjaardag van de fotografie, verwelkomt het zwembad voor een carte Blanche voor jonge hedendaagse creatie, de kunstenaar Thomas Devaux. Geboren in het Noorden in Marcq-en-Baroeul, de fotograaf die nu in Parijs woont en werkt, definieert zichzelf als fotographeplasticus. Fotografie schept in zijn werk verwarring over de ware aard ervan, verwart zichzelf soms met een abstract schilderij, een ontwerpobject of zelfs een minimale kunstinstallatie. Het fotografische beeld vervaagt zo de oriëntatiepunten en bevindt zich aan de rand van verschillende kunsten Zijn werken vinden dan ook een natuurlijke plaats in het Musée d'art et d'industrie de Roubaix, dat sinds de opening in 2001 voortdurend vraagtekens zet bij de hiërarchieën tussen de kunsten
Reflectie, spiegel en licht vormen ook de kern van het werk van de kunstenaar die onderzoek doet naar het profane en het heilige in het tijdperk van de consumptiemaatschappij. In de afgelopen jaren transformeert hij zijn foto's door ze te mengen met dichroïsch glas. Het museum gebruikt licht als een artistiek materiaal op zich, de werken in het museum interageren met de reflecties en ramen van het bassin en met de collecties, in een ongekend installatie in het hart van het oude zwembad en binnen de permanente cursus.
