Located on the border of the Nièvre and the Allier, along the river Ozon (formerly Auzon), the castle of Auzon is the most southerly property of the department of Nièvre. Its park, designed by the famous landscape gardener Paul de Lavenne de Choulot in 1849, and the built ensemble have been listed as historical monuments since 2024.
Attested as early as the 15th century, the castle is mentioned as such from 1680, without ever having had a defensive vocation. The central building and a tower are redesigned under the Restoration, with the addition of a north wing and the raising of the roofs. The current building, made of stone and brick covered with rendering, is distinguished by its asymmetrical wings. The park, created on the foundations of an old park and enriched with rare essences, extends over several municipalities. It includes an artificial lake and common redone around 1870, allowing the estate to live in autarchy (dairy, forge, ice house, mill, tile factory). Private property,
