The castle of Purnon and its outbuildings are built from 1771 to 1785 probably on the site of a primitive castle. A long avenue laid out in 1812, terraces and the ordinance of the commons give this castle great majesty. A high-quality 17th century building is located at the Moulin-Bijard. The vegetable garden, which precedes this building, hosts a quite exceptional wind turbine. The latter, built in 1900 by E. Lebert, who had taken over from the Etablissements A. Bollée in Le Mans in 1898, was intended to supply water for the vegetable garden and the castle. It is supported by a cast iron column around which a staircase winds, allowing access to a gallery above which the wind turbine with distributor is mounted. The whole measures nearly 15 m high. The turbine actuates three piston pump bodies placed in a circular edicule at the foot of the structure. The pumps suck and discharge the water then stored in a tank with a capacity of 9000 liters placed at the top of a masonry tower. The ra
