Library built on the site of the former Carmelite convent, from 1932 to 1935\. The origin of the library can be attributed to Lomènie de Brienne who gathered the funds of the Jesuit library in 1782\. It grew during the Revolution by including monastic libraries, then private collection funds, and finally the volumes of the clergy library in 1866\. The three bodies of buildings define the library’s functions. A first body houses the administrative services. The second, connected to the first by a vestibule, constitutes the reading room, illuminated by a dome. A third is located in the extension of the previous one and serves as a book store on six levels. Different artists from Toulouse create frescoes (Marc Saint-Saens), fountains (Parayre), bas-reliefs (Sylvestre Clerc), paintings (Edouard Bouillères) and stained glass (Rapp). The entire building is adorned with ironwork motifs.
