This castle is linked to the memory of the knight Arnaud Guilhem de Barbazau, nicknamed the "blameless knight" and the "restorer of the kingdom and the crown of France", who defeated in single combat under the walls of the castle of Montendre the six representatives of the English army and was authorized to carry the full and entire weapons of the House of France, without alteration or breaking. Died in 1432 from wounds of war, he was buried at Saint-Denis with royal honours. Is also linked to the history of the castle, Jean-Jacques Le Franc de Pompigna, poet and founder of the Academy of Montauban, whose maternal ancestry was in possession of the land of Gramont. The castle is presented as a set of constructions arranged at an angle. The northern branch is occupied by the primitive castle of the thirteenth century, consisting of a quadrangular body supported to the southeast by a square tower, called Simon de Montfort Tower, discourded and decreased by three meters in the nineteenth c
