Ihre fruchtbare Zusammenarbeit führte später zur begehrten Entschlüsselung der Hieroglyphen durch den jüngsten unter ihnen, Jean-François Champollion, und ebnete so den Weg für eine neue Disziplin: die Ägyptologie. Joseph Fourier, großer Diener des Empire und Präfekt der Isère, hat auch unser Département durch die Leitung großer kaiserlicher Projekte geprägt. Joseph Fourier, ein weltweit bekannter und anerkannter Mathematiker wie Jean-François Champollion in der Ägyptologie, gilt aufgrund seiner Arbeiten über die analytische Theorie der Wärme als der Gründungsvater der mathematischen Physik.
Es wird auch wichtig sein, während dieser Konferenz die außergewöhnliche, zu oft unterschätzte Rolle von Jacques-Joseph Champollion, dem älteren Bruder von Jean-François, hervorzuheben. Er war es, der sie insbesondere dem Präfekten Fourier vorstellte, einem entscheidenden Treffen in Grenoble für die Fortsetzung ihres glänzenden Werdegangs.

Their fruitful collaboration later led to the much coveted decipherment of hieroglyphics by the youngest of them, Jean-François Champollion, thus paving the way for a new discipline: Egyptology. Joseph Fourier, great servant of the Empire and prefect of the Isère also left his mark on our department by leading major imperial projects. Joseph Fourier, a world-renowned mathematician who is recognized in the same way as Jean-François Champollion in Egyptology, is considered, following his work on the analytical theory of heat, to be the founding father of mathematical physics.
It will also be essential to highlight during this conference the exceptional role, too often underestimated, of Jacques-Joseph Champollion elder brother of Jean-François. It was he who introduced him to the prefect Fourier, a decisive meeting in Grenoble for the continuation of his brilliant career.
Their respective discoveries of a universal nature will have profoundly marked our civilization. The crucible of their fundamental research is indeed located in Grenoble; we will see him during this journey through the old town, in the footsteps of our three illustrious ones.

Joseph Fourier, grande servitore dell'Impero e prefetto dell'Isère, avrà anche lasciato la sua impronta nel nostro dipartimento con la conduzione di grandi progetti imperiali. Joseph Fourier, un matematico di fama mondiale, come Jean-François Champollion in egitologia, è considerato il padre fondatore della fisica matematica per i suoi lavori sulla teoria analitica del calore.
Sarà anche indispensabile sottolineare durante questa conferenza il ruolo eccezionale, troppo spesso sottovalutato, di Jacques-Joseph Champollion fratello maggiore di Jean-François. È lui che la introdurrà in particolare presso il prefetto Fourier, incontro decisivo a Grenoble per il seguito del suo brillante percorso.
