The Toulouse Tourist Office is located in the Keep of the Capitol (or tour of the archives).
At the back of the Capitol, of which it was once part, with a belfry of Flemish inspiration, the tower of the archives appears as an architectural curiosity.
Designed to house powder and archives guaranteeing municipal freedom, the building, built in 1525, has a defensive appearance that is why it is commonly called the Dungeon by the Toulousains. Stuck between the majestic Capitol, the metro station and the shops, you can pass by without seeing it, as long as you don’t lift your nose!
In perfect condition of conservation, it is part of the buildings restored by Viollet-le-Duc in the 19th century and is the seat of the Toulouse tourist office since 1948.
Among the objects it housed in its former functions, was a chest that was opened with 7 keys (one per capitul): the papers were safe!
