The owners of Remeneuil Castle are pleased to open their doors for their second edition of the 2023 European Heritage Days.
Following the success of the first public opening of the 2022 Heritage Days, the owners have decided to honor each year the opening of the gates of the castle in order to share their passion for the safeguarding of one of the most unknown treasures of the Vienna heritage.

Fief of high justice under the Duchy of Châtellerault, the origin of Remeneuil dates back to 1370\.
The castle of Remeneuil, small fortress on its rocky mound underground, the castle is probably built in the fourteenth-fifteenth century but then rebuilt throughout its history until the nineteenth century. Local legend has it that the Saracen vanguard that was massacred by the Great Charles the martel could not be saved in time by the rest of the armed corps that followed, because delayed by the march on the tedious hills of Remeneuil, those who arrived too late could only observe the massacre and took the decision to turn around.
Remeneuil owes its name to the toponym «Romanoculus» because of the presence of the Roman troops led by Caesar himself, the latter would then have established his camp temporarily on the site during his crossing of the valley of the Veude.
