This surprising church was entirely transformed by Abbé Paul Lecoutre, from 1869 to his death in 1906\. We can date its first state of the 12th century. Attached to a warrior tower, it was narrower, without a vault and without a pavement. The choir, built at the end of the 15th century, was smaller. Father Lecoutre, inspired by a journey to the Holy Land and Italy in 1867, embarked on a vast project of rebuilding the church. The choir is enlarged, the nave is increased by eight lateral chapels and raised by a vault at the height of the choir. The tower is raised and then covered with an arrow. The abundant decoration of colors and materials, the original furniture, the abundance of statues and sacred texts make this church a unique work, designed by one man. In 1928, Abbé Baheux built a cave at Lourdes and added a remarkable collection of statues by Georges Bernardi. It has been listed as a Historical Monument since 2006.
