Guided tour of the Authon castle and its exterior
Discover the castle of Authon, former barony of Saintonge, partially rebuilt in 1607 and reworked in the 19th century. Surrounded by a moat and nestled in an English-style park, the estate preserves a rich heritage: carved corner pavilion, entrance porch, guard tower, French garden, vegetable garden...
The guided tour includes the park, the guards' tower and the horse-drawn carriage shed.
Visits start at 2 p.m., 3 p.m., 4 p.m., 5 p.m. and 6 p.m.

The castle of Authon is the seat(siege) of a barony which has belonged for a long time to the family of the same name, one of the most old(former) families of Saintonge. The current castle, surrounded with staves(moats) fed by Dandelot, was partly rebuilt in 1607\. He(It) also made the object, between 1865 and the end of the XIXth century, of important works of restoration(catering) and of transformation(processing) (reconstruction of stables, plantation of the English-style park) as well as of demolition of several buildings(ships). Today, only remain(subsist) the detached house(flag) of angle (1607) adorned of interesting sculpted small windows and a beautiful door with front wall(pediment) and the entry porch and the tower of the guards(nurses) of the previous castle. In the middle of an English-style park, the castle dating the XVIth and XVIIth centuries, is surrounded with staves(moats) in water. In the courtyard, a French-style garden allows to discover a rose garden. A little farther, the kitchen garden allows to pursue visit.
