In the original project of Fainsilber, the city of science and industry (CSI) presents itself as a fortress on a geometric island. Integrated into the new landscape plan of Tschumi, it loses its impregnability and turns out to be the facade of the park: first element seen from the northern entrance; element finishing the perspective from the southern entrance. The CSI is part of the cultural journey of the park; in addition to being integrated into this journey, it offers a new one, at its own scale. With its impressive dimensions and defying all the technical assumptions, its pure geometry and modern language, the CSI embodies everything that the policy of the 1980s wanted for the park of La Villette: a modern face, powerful, mixed. It is held in the continuity of the Beaubourg Centre (1977). In a perfect rectangle with glass excrescences, the CSI is surrounded by moats, with clear and shallow water.
