Musée municipal Ducastel-Vera - Maison natale Claude Debussy
38 rue au Pain 78100 Saint-Germain-en-Laye
The museum was created in 1848 from the very rich collection of artworks bequeathed by Louis-Alexandre Ducastel. It has since continued to grow thanks to the donations of art lovers and artists from Saint-Germany. The museum has been awarded the "Musée de France" label since 2002\. Since 2021, it bears the name of Ducastel-Vera and is spread over three sites: Espace Paul-et-André-Vera, Villa Eugénie-Désoyer (historic building of the museum which houses the Royal Apothecary) and the Maison natale Claude-Debussy. LA MAISON NATALE CLAUDE-DEBUSSY An important part of the museum’s collections is dedicated to Claude Debussy, a composer whose innovative work profoundly revolutionized classical music and paved the way for experiments in the 20th century. Debussy’s personal objects, sources of inspiration, as well as many family souvenirs, photos and scores are gathered in the 17th century house where the composer spent the first three years of his life, his parents ran a faience shop.
