The castle is a construction of medieval origin. It is the successive residence of many illustrious characters. Jean d'Arrentières (royal bailiff) is the first known owner of this residence and built a chapel in 1319\. In 1371, the countess Yolande de Bar, future queen of Aragon, is held there by order of Charles V.
Under Louis XIII, the owner is arrested for having converted to Protestantism and Richelieu orders the dismantling of the defenses including the dungeon. The tower integrated into the house and the other tower, transformed into a dovecot, escaped this destruction.
In the 19th century, it was the general councilor of Aube, Ladislas de Lassus, uncle of the famous police prefect Maupas who made it his residence. The castle is passed on to the family of Lassus until the 21st century when the owner’s family buys it back. Around 1970, Emmanuel Piot acquired the castle from a family indivision, in order to preserve it within the same lineage.
