Bequeathed by Olbius Riquier to the city of Hyères in 1868, this 7-hectare plot became a branch of the Paris acclimatization garden for 26 years. It is arranged according to the project drawn up by G. Aumont and M. Chevalier, collaborators of the landscape architect J.P. Barillet-Deschamps. At its opening to the public in 1877, it combined the functions of a public garden, an acclimation garden and a zoological garden. Its landscape composition persists with its wide paths, vast lawns, large trees, a lake and its waterfall. The Olbius Riquier Park contains a great botanical diversity and in particular uncommon palm trees, a rock garden of succulents. The greenhouse houses a teeming vegetation brightened by the multiple colors of its hibiscus collection. This urban public park hosts activities intended for the younger ones and new landscaped areas gradually replace the old zoo.
